Day 38: Outdoor museum and Richt Taffil (June 21):

Today we woke up in the Netherlands and went out to eat at Sarah's Pancake House. I had a waffle with hot sauce, ice cream. Their pancakes are actually crepes. So good!  (but boy did it set us back on our meal budget for the day).

Later, we walked around Amsterdam. Dad, Dallin, and Mom tried a pickled Herring - recommended by Bart - (fish) on a bun. I didn't dare try it! Haha!

Pickled Herring, I'm going to say, not a hit, except for with Peyton.
A cathedral where Rembrandt is buried.

Afterwards, we drive to a small, little town - 15 minutes out of Amsterdam with lots of cute little working windmills and an outdoor museum ( a museum that portrays what life used to be like in that country/culture). Just as we are walking in, a group of about 5 Arabic men start to oogle over Tanner and ask if they can take pictures with him. They took Tanner out of his stroller and took pictures kissing him. Tanner pushed them away. It was funny!

At the museum, we tried cheese samples, we ate a lot of cheese, stroop waffles - yum! and a wooden shoe factory. Historically, they wore wooden shoes to protect their feet and to keep them dry in the wet climate and canal-filled area they lived in.
If you look closely, you can see hooks on the tops of the homes, for the people to be able to get furniture into there tall skinny buildings. It's a pulley to pull the furniture up and bring it in through the windows.

Always jumping!
We went back to the hotel, dropped off the kids, and Benson and I went to try some Indonesian (which was a territory of Amsterdam at one time), Richt Taffil. In the end, there was a huge rainstorm that we ran through to try to remember where we parked our car. Another cool thing about Amsterdam, is that since it is such a small country, everybody speaks numerous languages, and everyone's English is amazing.
Enjoying a much needed date night!

Man! He's good looking!
