Day 28: Rocamador and a homeless first night in Paris (June 11):

We leave our tiny mobile home in Biscarrosse and hop in the car for Paris! - but by way of Rocamadour.
The drive is absolutely quaint with these adorable, ancient stone towns sprinkled along the way.

Not sure the meaning of the bikes - tour de France possibly?

Rocamadour is a small medieval (1100's) village built right on a cliff over a gorge, winding up the way to the top where the church is. It is famous for its rare, black Madonna that many very important people make a pilgrimage - climbing the 286 steps to - on their knees.

We take trolley up to the bottom of the village.

Rocamadour is absolutely beautiful, and soon becomes one of our all time favorite towns!

No trollies here.

The church is built right into the cliff - where the cliff is the actual interior wall.

Does this phone look out of place to anyone else?
It starts to rain - time to get back in the car for Paris.
Goodbye Rocamadour!
The address for our Paris home stay doesn't show up on our GPS, so we have difficulty finding it - but after phone calls and many kind people helping us, we make it to the house at about 11:00pm. Everyone is tired and hungry.
For about 30 minutes, the woman takes me from room to room, counting light bulbs, paintings, noting marks on the wall, etc., and repeating over and over that if they are broken or disappear, she will charge us. Then we FINALLY sit down to sign contracts. Meanwhile everyone is unloading suitcases from the van, and we discover that her total price that she had quoted me, is for one night, not four. Well, it is way over our budget and we leave. My biggest fear becomes a reality! Our house didn't work out.
"So it is almost midnight and we left that place and no hotels were open. And we hadn't had dinner all night. We were starving and tired! Since nothing was open, Dad parked the car (after driving for hours to find a place to sleep)  in front of a house in a neighborhood, and we slept in the car! All 8 of us! I offered to snuggle up with a hobo that had a sleeping bag that we had seen earlier in Paris!" Talie.
The back seat looks like it has baby puppies all piled on top of each other. First night in Paris, and we are homeless.
