Day 15: Castle Adventure & Sevilla

"Today we went to Sevilla. We stopped at a castle on the way. It was awesome! There were lots of stairs and it was super high up. It was scary because there were no railings. We also took some family pictures." Ashlynn.
Today we take a day trip to Sevilla (2 hour drive). On the way, we see a super cool castle right off the road, and it isn't even locked up! We pull over, of course, and have a fun adventure! These unplanned, unexpected adventures are the highlights of the trip for me. Just amazing things that we stumble upon - or make happen. And we just take time to enjoy them because we are not on a tight schedule.

This castle is the castillo de las Aguazaderas. It was built in the time when the Moors ruled southern Spain, and this particular castle was built to protect their water source.
We climb up the walls and all the way up to the watch tower. The final tower is made of crumbling rocks and you wouldn't even be able to go near something like this in the states.

The very top, the watch tower.

                                                                         Sevilla

Today we went to Sevilla. We walked around . . .

. . and visited a cathedral where a lot of important people were buried. Also Christopher Columbus was buried here. His coffin was brown and four statues were carrying it on their shoulders. Then we we walked around another cool cathedral. There were cool purple trees." Talie
Poor Tanner is really struggling and throws his first real fit of the trip. I guess one fit every two weeks isn't too bad.

I think this is one of Benson's favorite spots. It is so cool to see the final resting place of a spiritual and historical hero, Christopher Columbus - even prophesied about in the Book of Mormon!
Christopher Columbus's grave.

We drive back to Ronda and eat dinner on a plaza with a fountain. Spanish evenings are wonderful! Everyone just gathers together and eat tapas, drink a lot, and visit, while the children run around. Very relaxing!
Eating dinner in Ronda - where the waitress does not know the meaning of customer service. We also discover that when they voluntarily bring you food that you didn't order- like bread, etc., don't eat it unless you want to pay for it.
Then we walk to the bridge to get one last look at it at night. As we are walking toward the bridge, all of a sudden, I realize that Kennedi is not with us. I run back to the plaza and find her sitting on a bench and crying. Somehow she didn't see us leave and later looked up and we were gone (We all thought she was with someone else). She went and sat on a bench, waiting for us to return. She's such a smart girl. I'm grateful she is safe and we have the opportunity to talk about prayer.
Back to our home in Montejaque.
